NEPA's first annual Pagan Pride Day will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, PA. People of all ages and spiritual backgrounds are welcome. The event will include information booths, workshops, live music, vendors and other activities celebrating the growing season, a time of gratitude in many Pagan traditions. Admission is a donation to Bread basket of NEPA, a local nonprofit that currently supports seven food pantries that distribute food to people in need. You are welcome to bring an item of non-perishable commercially prepared food (no home canned goods, unfortunately). Please note the most-needed items are cereal and canned fruit and applesauce. Other items are canned tuna, canned vegetables, pasta and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, rice, and soup.

This is the time of year to celebrate the new honor the past and remember those that have passed. This is the Witches New Year. It is the beginning and the end to the wheel of the year. The word Samhain comes from Celtic tradition for this time of the year, but there are as many names as there are faiths and histories. Ossa Dei Morti, is Italian for Bones of the Dead or, Dia de los Muertos, the Spanish Day of the Dead. There are hundreds of celebrations among Pagans for honoring of the dead and the recognition of this night when the veil between the worlds is thinnest and we have the opportunity to commune with those which have gone before. We will have an opening blessing, and an ancestors altar where you can bring photo's of love ones, ashes, we honor all are departed love ones, scales, shells, fur, and feather. We will have people from all walks of life attending the Witches Ball, from all faiths & practices, even those who are agnostic & atheist. This a safe and inclusive event, LGBTQIA+ welcomed. This an open event. We will have a full blown ritual at Midnight, if you do not feel like joining the circle that is fine, nobody is required to take part in the ritual. With watercolors hand crafted by Anong Beam’s indigenous-owned, female-led paint company located within M'chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island in Canada. Lightfast pigments, tree sap, gum arabic, and Manitoulin honey, are blended together to create a handmade saturated colour that is a joy to paint with. In ruminating on color, it seems that there are no constants. Like Monet's haystacks, freshly turned earth before and after the delicate dampening cast of dew, or the subtle sky around Madame Moon as the sun and stars argue over who will tuck her in at night...color is ever changing. The same is true for watercolors. The intensity and shadow of even a single color pot depends on the exact conditions at the moment it is being worked. In her native Ojibwe, "-aande" means "it is colored". Ziigwun Azaadibuk’aande. It is colored the sweet and hopeful green of spring. Zoogpoh’aande. It is colored the soft quiet hush of drifted snow. Dwaagi Azaadibuk’aande. It is colored the last burst of flaming fall yellow of the changing poplar tree. But, like those exact things in real life, the name doesn't quite cover the whole thing, end of story. The color, like the words, are just our human grasp at getting as close as we can to the impossible stunning truth of the real deal. Living with them, being present in their world, and trying our very best to call the very colors forth into being. THAT is the beauty of the thing. Together we will find our voice and tell our story with watercolor and paper. As the story is revealed, we enter the Temezcal for a time of connection, healing and rejuvenation. We will sweat together, we will sing songs and we will share our stories. WHAT IS A TEMAZCAL? Modern versions of these ancient structures vary with their place of origin, with native Mexicans referring to a traditional sauna as a "temazcal," north of Mexico cultures calling it an "inipi" or "kiva," Europeans calling it a "savusauna" or "sudatory," the Chinese calling it "桑拿浴," and the Russians naming it "banya" or "banja“. In pre-Colombian culture, the Temazcal ceremony was a regular part of daily life and religious practices. Temazcal is a spiritual, cardio-vascular and integrative experience that cleanses and detoxifies the body while supporting the immune system, promoting good circulation of blood flow, improving digestion and reducing stress. The ceremony has been used as a form of natural healing for thousands of years in Mexico, Central America and South America. It improves mental clarity, physical health and stimulates the immune system. Awaken your senses at our annual 3-day Beltane Festival Friday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 5th at Circle Sanctuary Nature Preserve near Barneveld, Wisconsin. Beltane, also known as May Day, marks the midway point between spring and summer. Now is the time to gather together to awaken the land, our bodies and our spirit with joy, music, and community. This family-friendly festival will include the Oak Apple Morris Dancers performing a traditional English folk dance while participates wrap the May Pole. Other traditional Beltane activities include May Pole dancing, crowning of May Day royalty along with workshops, rituals, nature walks and a raffle.
