Survivors of a deadly flu try to pick up the pieces and rebuild the world in HBO Max's new sci-fi miniseries "Station Eleven." The series premiered on December 16, and new episodes will debut every Thursday through January 13.

The critically acclaimed series is based on the bestselling novel written by Emily St. John Mandel. Set 20 years after a pandemic has ravaged the globe, the story focuses on a group of survivors who work as traveling performers. The show stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, and David Wilmot.

Though the premise might seem like a downer, especially considering the realities we currently face dealing with a real-life pandemic, critics have praised the series for its dark yet uplifting story. The show currently holds an impressive "100% Fresh" rating on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

Where to watch 'Station Eleven'

You can watch "Station Eleven" exclusively on HBO Max. The first three episodes premiered on December 16, and new episodes debut every Thursday. The miniseries will feature a total of 10 episodes.

The HBO Max streaming service starts at $10 a month for ad-supported playback. If you want a commercial-free experience, you can step up to the $15 a month plan. This more expensive plan also adds access to same-day movie premieres, like "The Matrix Resurrections," as well as support for 4K streaming on select titles.

HBO Max doesn't offer a free trial directly through its site, but Hulu members can get a seven-day trial of the HBO Max add-on. Only new HBO members with Hulu are eligible for the trial.

You can access the HBO Max app on mobile devices, Roku players, Fire TV products, Apple TV models, Google/Android TV devices, and most smart TVs. HBO Max is also available on web browsers.
